Sewage Sludge Transport | Odor Nuisances

How to address odor nuisances during sewage sludge transport from treatment plants?

Our client transports sewage sludge from treatment plants to composting centers. These sludges emit strong odors that bother the drivers as well as the surrounding area when trucks circulate or are parked in the facility.

The Site Manager contacted us through our website, seeking a solution to reduce odor nuisances, and inquired about our odor-proof tarp.

The solution proposed by OTEXIO

For the rolling tarp system used by the client, we took all the measurements of the container and proposed a semi-custom transport tarp with regenerating odor filters.

  • The choice of the TARPLINE® 900 tarp
    • The waterproof tarp protects the sludge from rain, facilitating the treatment process.
    • We selected the TARPLINE® 900 tarp, the most robust, suitable for the rolling tarp system.
  • The choice of regenerating odor filters
    • The regenerating odor filters placed along the tarp absorb the odors. This process is unique and results in a product with permanent efficiency.
    • The activated carbon captures and stores the odor molecules.
    • We conducted an initial test on a barrel filled with sludge, and the test was successful.

Results observed by the client

The regular driver of the trailer equipped with the new tarp featuring integrated odor filters reports a significant reduction in gaseous emissions when opening the tarp.

The odor filters allow air to circulate between the material in the container and the tarp, capturing and storing the odor molecules.

We have a new request from the client to create additional tarps for their semi-truck fleet.
