The waste treatment center of the ORTEC Group, located in the Bouches-du-Rhône region, has made recycling and valorization of hazardous industrial waste (HIW) its primary activity. Since 2006, the group has organized its site to process waste, recycle materials, and produce recycled carbon-based fuel.

The company is thus committed to its clients (such as cement manufacturers) by assisting them in their energy transition and offering hydrocarbons derived from hazardous industrial waste.

A Dual Challenge: Filtering and Evacuation :

site-ortec
In the "filtration" unit of the liquid/pasty sector of its site, the ORTEC Group subsidiary retrieves hazardous sludge and liquids, such as petrochemical tank bottoms or ship bilge waste. These waste materials, once settled, neutralized, filtered, and mixed, become ideal fuels for nearby plants.

1 - Filtering Hydrocarbons

CLIENT'S CHALLENGE

The primary challenge faced by our client was how to achieve fine filtration of this new mixture to make it pure enough for use. Up until now, filtration was accomplished using an open polypropylene big bag. The mesh wasn't fine enough, allowing particles and impure sludge to pass through. Additionally, the big bag didn't sufficiently withstand heat, which was crucial as the waste sludge from production was still hot at this stage. Therefore, the solution was not suitable and required reprocessing.

SOLUTION PROVIDED BY OTEXIO

After a thorough observation and understanding of the issue, our OTEX'PERT successfully identified the real need and proposed a perfectly adapted solution: a 100% filtrating big bag made from polyethylene mosquito net fabric, enabling ultra-fine particle filtration.

The BBN-019-6LN has meshed sides and a bottom made of woven micro-mesh netting. Positioned on an appropriate support under the tank drainage outlets, it filters the sludge, retaining only the particles that will later be sent for grinding. This big bag, made of polyethylene this time, fully withstands the heat of the sludge from the tanks.

The hydrocarbon resulting from this production is thus clean and pure, and can be resold to cement manufacturers.

2 - Evacuating Chemical Waste

CLIENT'S CHALLENGE :

The chemical and hazardous materials (paint, chemicals, etc.) used in the production of these hydrocarbons arrive in containers that cannot be reused due to their toxicity. Once used, they are ground for disposal, but they remain soiled, dirty, and sticky. This poses a real issue as it results in significant degradation of the containers and transport vehicles (moving floor trailers), requiring cleaning, maintenance, and a need for waterproofing during transport. All of this leads to reduced productivity, costs for cleaning, and labor intensification due to the toxicity and dirtiness. In this case, the waste is evacuated by moving floor trailers trucks and damages the interior of the moving floor trailers, necessitating systematic restoration.

SOLUTION PROVIDED BY OTEXIO :

OTEXIO has been marketing PROTECSKIP® for several years, a tear-resistant protective cover for containers that shields them from tearing and ensures complete protection during transport in a container.

Leveraging their experience with protective covers for containers, OTEXIO offered a tailor-made solution that was 100% adapted to the specific size of the moving floor trailers trucks. They designed a 16-meter-long polyethylene cover ensuring tear resistance and full interior protection for the moving floor trailers.

The realization of this solution was a collaborative effort with the transport provider MAUFFREY, who adapted their trucks with a specific fastening system. poles held by steel wires are distributed along the entire length of the moving floor trailers, allowing operators to attach the large cover from inside the container.

The system designed by MAUFFREY does not hinder the truck's closure by a standard covering. After a setup of about 30 minutes by MAUFFREY, the container is ready and available for ORTEC. It will receive the dirtiest and drippiest waste, such as paint cans, laundry detergent bottles, and chemicals, which will then be sent for incineration.

EXPERTISE PROVIDED BY OTEXIO - 1 STOP SHOP

OTEXIO has positioned itself as a solution provider across the entire logistical chain for processing these materials. Their expertise in textile solutions for waste management, coupled with their customizing abilities, has enabled them to provide the client with products adapted to the specific constraints of their activity:

  • A filtrating polyethylene big bag for ultra-fine filtration and real heat resistance
  • A sufficiently large and resistant protective cover for their moving floor trailerss
Our OTEX'PERTS worked with the end client and their transport providers, who are also part of our client network, such as MAUFFREY. This ensures the group's activity is carried out safely, guaranteeing maximum productivity.

Thanks to OTEXIO, the client was able to rely on a single supplier to address all their challenges, saving time and increasing profitability.

CLIENT FEEDBACK

The big bag is perfectly adapted to the site's constraints, using nearly twenty of them per year. Filtration enables the offering of pure and clean hydrocarbons while maintaining a more efficient and less messy operation. The moving floor trailers cover, which was more relevant to the transport provider, helped preserve the containers, ensure a more efficient rotation of the trucks that no longer require extensive cleaning, and reduce the challenges associated with the disposal of these chemical waste.
